Dr. Alan Teoh is a Respiratory and Sleep Specialist with a subspecialty interest in interstitial lung diseases (ILD). He currently holds an appointment as a Staff Specialist in the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he works closely within the ILD Unit, one of Australia’s leading centres in research and clinical care of patients with ILD. He is also currently undertaking a Doctor in Philosophy (PhD) in ILD with The University of Sydney.
Dr. Teoh received his undergraduate degree in medical sciences and medicine, both with first class honours from the University of Tasmania. He completed his basic physician training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and advanced training in respiratory and sleep medicine at Westmead Hospital. He was awarded the Royal Australasian College Fellowship in respiratory and sleep medicine in 2017. He has travelled to Basel, Switzerland for an ILD preceptorship course. He is a member of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ), the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and the European Respiratory Society (ERS).
Dr. Teoh is the co-chair of the ILD multidisciplinary meeting at Westmead Hospital and a regular member of the meeting at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He is also associated with the ILD clinic and service at both Royal Prince Alfred and Westmead Hospital, where he has assisted in the management and coordination of clinic as well as the clinical care of ILD patients. He co-founded the Post COVID Respiratory Clinic at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and continues to provide care to this highly specialised population. In addition to his interest in ILD, Alan’s clinical practice covers a wide range of respiratory and sleep disorders such as respiratory infections, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, bronchiectasis, lung cancer, obstructive sleep apnoea and other complex sleep disorders.
Dr. Teoh is currently pursuing a PhD degree at the University of Sydney. He was awarded the combined University of Sydney and Centre of Excellence in Pulmonary Fibrosis scholarship to conduct further research in ILD, with a focus on idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He has co-authored and collaborated with leading international researchers on numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and is frequently invited as a peer reviewer in international journals. He is a current fellow at the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC)-funded Centre of Excellence in Pulmonary Fibrosis Advanced Training Environment (CREATE) and is a member of its program advisory committee. He is also a member of the Translation, Education and Support sub-committee, which is heavily involved in providing education and translating new information to patients living with ILD. He has presented his research findings at multiple international respiratory medical conferences and has also been an invited speaker. Dr. Teoh is also involved in undergraduate teaching of medical students and postgraduate training for physician trainees.
